Why Do We Give?
Giving to God from our finances is an essential testimony of our thanks to Him for His provision for us. Giving is a step of faith and faithfulness. It is an act of obedience to God’s commands when we take from the resources God has provided and return to Him a portion believing that He will bless our gift and that He will bless us as we live on what we keep. Through our giving, we are in a tangible and a practical way God’s instrument to fund His work in the world. The Bible reminds us in multiple ways that God is pleased when His people give generously and faithfully. Our giving is a necessary spiritual discipline and means of grace through which God blesses us and others. Though the tithe would seem to be a minimal biblical standard for financial giving, we encourage giving over and above this 10 percent. As we give, we are to to do so joyfully and generously as God has given to us, following the example of God’s gift to us of the indescribable gift of His Son.
